A Pedagogical Study on Pedagogical Documentation
March 31, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am
You are invited to join Jodi for a short pedagogical study involving Pat Tarr’s article, Curiosity, Curriculum and Collaboration Entwined: Reflections on Pedagogical Documentation. This is a five-page article that will be the inspiration for a pedagogical conversation about pedagogical documentation. You will receive a copy of the article upon registration.
Abstract:
Documentation is an essential component of the Reggio Emilia philosophy and is vital to the process of on-going professional development for educators there. It situates teachers in the position of researchers of themselves and of the children whose lives they share. It is this attitude which has prevented the Reggio Emilia philosophy from becoming stagnant or a replicable model. However, as North Americans begin to be inspired by this philosophy, they often find it difficult to move beyond seeing documentation as a form of assessment. Their vision becomes limited by what I have called the assessment or curriculum lens. Written from a reconceptualist perspective (e.g. Canella, 1997; Dahlberg, Moss & Pence, 1999/2007; Iannaci & Whitty, 2009) and drawing from the current writing on documentation, this article will explore how the three themes of curiosity, collaboration and curriculum are entwined and comprise essential components of pedagogical documentation. (Tarr, 2010)
This gathering will take place from 9:00am – 10:30am. We ask that you also bring one piece of documentation to share with the group. The documentation should tell a story about something you were curious about or that captured your attention. Include a couple photos, children’s words (if any were said), and enough details for us to understand the context. Please keep confidentiality in mind; you may ask parents and children for permission to share their photos, or you can cover children’s faces to conceal their identities.
Please note that this gathering will be limited to the first five registrants to allow all participants to contribute to the learning and dialogue. If there is a greater interest in this opportunity, we will schedule a second gathering.
To register, please text Jodi at (807) 630-1923, or send an e-mail to jodi.corbett@tbdssab.ca. Note: if you do not get a reply to your e-mail, your e-mail was likely blocked by our server. If this happens, please call or text instead.
